It does need to plug into your router via an Ethernet cable, but the sleek design looks great wherever you place it. This device communicates with your home security devices through abodeRF, Zigbee, or Z-Wave which gives you an extra layer of security through encryption. After you set up your starter kit, add devices like motion sensors, cameras, water leak detectors, door/window sensors, and more until you feel completely protected.
The gateway goes beyond just security functionality with abode’s home automation platform: CUE. It can be placed anywhere in your home that is within range of your Wi-Fi network, making it a wireless smart home security solution (outside of a power cord).
